GTA 6 will require a 210 GB download on PlayStation 5 according to PS Store data

The highly anticipated GTA 6 will require a massive 210 GB download on the PlayStation 5, according to information pulled from the PS Store backend by the PlayStation Game Size account. Rockstar Games has not yet officially confirmed the number, but it has already circulated across several specialist outlets and been corroborated by sources such as Insider Gaming.

What happened?

The PlayStation Game Size profile, known for monitoring file sizes on Sony’s digital store, revealed that the standard edition of Grand Theft Auto VI is listed with a 210 GB download. Although the final space occupied on the SSD may be slightly smaller after installation and compression, players will need to download over 200 GB to play.

It is still unclear whether this volume already includes a possible day-one patch or if an additional update will be required. Given the attention around the game, the same profile is expected to update the data if the size changes.

Why does this matter?

GTA 6 promises the densest and most detailed open world in the franchise’s history. The Vice City map is described as twice the size of GTA V’s Los Santos, with a huge number of side activities and a cinematic, multi-hour narrative. All of that translates into high-quality files for textures, audio, cutscenes and physics systems.

For owners of the original PS5 (with roughly 667 GB of usable storage), 210 GB represents nearly a third of the drive. On the PS5 Slim the impact is smaller but still significant. Many players will have to uninstall other large titles to free up space.

What changes in practice?

  • Pre-loading begins on November 12, 2026, one week before the November 19 launch.
  • The physical version also requires a download (code in the box, no disc).
  • The size on Xbox Series X|S has not yet been confirmed, but something similar is expected.
  • Compared to games like Call of Duty with multiple modes, GTA 6 may be harder to modularize if GTA Online arrives later.

Rockstar has already confirmed the pre-load and launch dates. The review embargo is expected to lift on November 18. Get your SSD and internet connection ready — 210 GB does not download itself.
