FSR 4.1.2 for Xbox has been made available by AMD and Microsoft to Xbox Series X and Series S developers through the October 2026 Game Development Kit (GDK). This is the first time AMD’s machine-learning-based upscaling reaches Xbox consoles.
What happened?
Support for FSR 4.1.2 Xbox includes two INT8 models: Full and Lite. The Lite model is less than half the size and requires less GPU time, letting developers choose the best quality-performance balance per game. The implementation uses the same API as the PC SDK and includes GDK samples for easier integration. It is also available for ROG Xbox Ally handhelds.
Why does this matter?
Until now Xbox developers relied on older analytical FSR versions. FSR 4.1.2 brings superior visual quality similar to what is already available on PC Radeon cards and handhelds. This helps extend the life of the Series consoles, especially Series S, with better perceived resolution and performance.
What changes in practice?
Future games can offer higher quality modes or more stable frame rates thanks to ML upscaling from FSR 4.1.2 Xbox. Developers can already integrate the technology; the impact on players will depend on how many titles adopt it, including around major releases like GTA 6. AMD and Xbox optimized the implementation for both consoles.
