Fortnite Australia App Store: game returns to iOS after court ruling

The Fortnite Australia App Store is available again. Epic Games confirmed that the popular game returns to the country's iOS platform this Thursday, October 22, 2026, after a decision by the Federal Court of Australia that found Apple in violation of competition laws.

What happened?

The Australian court ordered Apple to allow the reinstallation of Epic applications, including Fortnite, immediately. The 235-page decision also requires the company to open iOS to third-party app stores and alternative payment methods starting March 1, 2027.

This includes the ability for users to download apps directly from developers and for developers to offer their own payment systems without Apple's additional fees. Original sources include reports from Reuters and Epic's own announcement.

Why does this matter?

Australia was the only major market where Fortnite had not yet returned to the App Store after the global return in May 2026. Epic had refused to return under terms it considered illegal, even after previous victories in other jurisdictions.

The decision reinforces global pressure on App Store practices, similar to changes already seen in the European Union, Japan, and Brazil. Apple announced it will appeal and request a stay of the order, arguing that the decision does not respect its intellectual property and the security of the ecosystem.

For Australian players, the Fortnite Australia App Store is once again officially available, making access easier without relying solely on sideloading or cloud gaming.
