What happened?
NVIDIA announced the DLSS 5 October Update, which makes the 3D-Guided Neural Rendering model twice as fast. The update reduces the model size by 24% to about 118 million parameters and cuts 4K VRAM usage by 20%.
The new model arrives on October 16 in NBA 2K27 for GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW, boosting frame rates by up to 1.4x. It becomes the default for future DLSS 5 games.
Why is this important?
Since its March launch, DLSS 5 has evolved to be 10x faster. The reduced GPU overhead allows more players to enjoy more realistic lighting and materials on mid and high-end GPUs without sacrificing visual quality.
The technology uses AI to infuse scenes with photorealistic lighting while maintaining developers' artistic control.
What changes in practice?
NBA 2K27 receives the update today. Hogwarts Legacy gets support on November 5, and Where Winds Meet in November. RTX Remix also receives the faster model on October 23.
There is also a new Performance mode for Frame Generation in beta on the NVIDIA App, up to 35% faster on some cards.
The update makes DLSS 5 more accessible and efficient for the gaming community.
