DEATH STRANDING ODRADEK: TOKYO PROTOTYPE is a location-based augmented reality (AR) experience inspired by the world of Death Stranding, developed in partnership between Niantic Spatial and KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS. It was announced by KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS on X on October 30, 2026, as part of the studio's 10th anniversary exhibition.
In practice, the experience casts the visitor as a porter: complete a delivery mission, explore the surroundings through the phone camera, and meet elements of the Death Stranding world, including BTs — the entities that Sam's shoulder-mounted Odradek device helps detect in the games. According to Pocket Gamer, there is also a photo mode.
The key limit is access. Full functionality is restricted to visitors of BEYOND THE STRAND: The Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo, from October 31 to December 20, 2026. The App Store listing describes the project as experimental, early-stage and subject to change, and states that it does not represent a finished consumer product or guarantee future functionality.
The app has appeared on Google Play and the App Store, but that does not mean anyone can play it in any city: outside the area around the gallery, full functionality is not available. Downloading the app is not the same as playing the full experience.
The project is the first public result of the technology partnership announced in September 2025 between Niantic Spatial and KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS, aimed at bringing Hideo Kojima's storytelling into the real world through geospatial technology. So far, there is no confirmation that ODRADEK will get a worldwide version outside the exhibition — any reading in that direction is speculation, not fact.
ODRADEK should not be confused with another announcement from the same event: Death Stranding Isolations, the hand-drawn 2D animated series due in 2027 on Disney+, is a separate project already covered by Geekiki. ODRADEK is the exhibition's AR experience, not the series.
